not a bad budget base. what all would i need to get that going, and into my nova?

different oil pan, pump and filter relocated? what else am i missing? heavier coil springs too of course.

i was planning on running a stock quadrajet, since i know them like the back of my hand… anything else have a good user friendly set up? i've had both holley and edelbrock before and honestly like quads over those.

You will probably aprox. need an additional 1,200 to 1,500 dollars to complete this motor. RICK
Balancer, intake, carb, dizzy, plugs, wires, headers or manifolds, waterpump, pulleys, alternator, brackets, belts, dipstick, flexplate or flywheel, motor mounts, starter, hardware for all previously listed. Pan should be fine ,filter location is fine. I'm sure I missed something.

Edit: gaskets,fuel pump,pump rod.

How about, radiator, temp, oil and amp sensors, valve covers, hoses, fan and shroud. Now were both still missing something? RICK

Oil pan, pump and no filter relocate is needed. nothing about that engine will be a issue. Change to V8 motor mounts and be happy!

Read this. I used it as a guide when I built my Goodwrench 350. Ended up going with a Lunati cam and some Vortec heads and an Edelbrock manifold. I had a 350 in the Nova already, but it was tired and needed pulled for a stronger engine. After everything was finished and running the total I spent on the engine and all the parts came to about $3000.
i was using this same motor, in my 27 Roadster after I pulled my stroker out of it. Motor is a good runner.
I was using a Edelbrock intake & carb.
This is a couple hundred more but a much better engine. Slap a vortec intake on it and stab a better roller cam in it and make some nice reliable power.

Vortec heads
4 bolt block and factory roller cam.

I agree^ ^^^^^^^
that one will be fine carburated and wont need any sort of special wiring will it?
haha i meant like… for an electric fuel pump/ radiator fan or EFI stuff.
1986-2000 style block, 4 bolt mains (No Fuel Pump Provision)

except for needing an electric fuel pump, unless i am reading that wrong
Electric fuel pump yes, as they don't have mech pump machined into the block.

Electric fuel pump you would need but other than that it is your basic sbc. Same engine that is in our 98 K2500 and that has over 200,000 very hard miles on it and it still runs great, does not consume any oil and the engine inside is spotless clean. That is IMO the best budget engine on the market today for a street/strip car. Better cam and vortec air gap intake will make some nice reliable power.

It has 3 major upgrades over that other engine that make it well worth the extra $400

Vortec heads
4 bolt block
roller cam block
A buddy recently bought a 325hp 350 crate motor, complete minus carb, from O'Reillys for around $1900. 12/12000 warranty.

Not verified HP, and a junk warranty, you have been warned! Stay away!

Just what do you think you get for 1900.00 ???

IMHO

GM crate motors is the only way to go  i would never buy a crate motor from anyone other then GM

i think engines you get from places like orielly's are so cheap because they use a lot of refurb parts. the block especially. with GM crates, theyre all brand new
