I'm starting to get ready to put some of the trim on that involves clips. According to the 65 shop manual the trim holes should have sealer applied when reinstalling. I'm sure they're referring to caulk tape but my question is,does it get applied around the clip before install or smeared around it from the back side? I'm worried that it won't fully seat and I won't be able to clean up squeeze out if I apply it beforehand. Thanks in advance

I would apply it on the the back side if you can, do it that way around the hole this way when you press the trim on it will spread some around the clip also. the holes you can't get access to, do it from the top just a little less product so it don't squeeze out past the trim.
