When I'm at idle about 500 rpm maybe just under and only after the engine is hot the oil pressure needle vibrates a little bit. Not huge fluctuations but definately noticeable. As soon as I accelerate it increases steadily but doesn't vibrate. It doesn't vibrate when cold either.

I have good oil pressure about 20 at idle sometimes 18 after a long drive.

I've got a 283 v8 if that makes any difference.

Is it normal for the needle to vibrate?

What kind of gauge is it? Ive seen cheap gauges act like that, the spring inside is kind of chincy and temp could effect the springs performance as well. Sounds like your oil pump and oil system are functioning fine. Id try another gauge before I tore into the engine.

The gauge was very cheap

Its a cheap mechanical gauge I got off epay. I don't think it has much of a dampener in it. My engine is new and has only 150 miles on it so I just wanted to be sure if it was normal or not.
