Oil from steering wheel?

Something that has been bothering me on and off for a while-

There is a small recess (can't tell if it's a screw hole or not) on the back of the steering wheel grip at the 6'oclock position.

Sometimes when I get in the car (and it always seems to happen when wearing light colored dress pants) my knee brushes up against the bottom of the wheel and some oil leaks out of this mystery hole and stains my pants forever.

I've stuck pieces of napkin in there to slow the progress, but over months/years the drop comes back.

It's a tiny amount, like 2-3 drops a year but I can't figure out what the h-e-double hockey sticks it could be, and why it keeps happening.

Any ideas?

My guess is it's the resins in the hard plastic or rubber that is seeping out. Go to wal-mart and buy a bottle of simple green cleaner. Spray it all over steering wheel wait a minute or two then wipe off with a clean rag. You may have to do this several times.
