I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much oil is needed for a oil change inlcuding the oil filter?? I searched in my owners manual and my chiltons and it doesn't mention the capacity anywhere, just oil weights.. The car is a inline 250 6 cylinder in a 74 Chevy Nova... I was thinking 5 quarts but didn't wanna overfill it.

I just changed the oil on my 250 and it only took 4qts. but you should always use the dip stick as a guide.:yes:

damn I added five.. I hope I didn't overfill it.. It looks good on the dipstick but they aren't fail proof :bored: :turn: :no: where'd you come up with 4 quarts? Is that what it took to fill yours? or is it documented somewhere?

My 230 used to take 5 qts. Put four in it and see what the dip stick says.

Like everyone said Check the dip stick after four. Depending on the oil filter it's 4.5 to 5Qts.(194,230,250s.) Most all 250s took 5Qts. the 292s hold 6Qts.

That's 4.65 quarts. Must be using the small filter.
