A friend of mine has a 1966 nova block 283 I want, and he wants to sell (it's already in my garage). However neither of us knows what a fair price is.

It's all there from intake manifold to oil pan, but needs a total rebuild.

Any onions? Anyone purchased one lately?

Back in 99, I bought my 67 283 complete from carb to pan with exhaust manifolds for 400 bucks. Personally, unless you REALLY want a 283, I would not give more than 250 for the whole setup.

Unless you decided you have to have a 283 to make it original looking, you would be a lot further ahead with a 350 and probably not spend any more money on it.

I would say if it's a Chevy II block, It's worth more than the average run of the mill 283 block just because they're rare.

Except for the oil filter you can make a big small block look "original".

I paid 150 bucks for mine. Sounds like it was in the same condition (torker II intake)as the one you have.
