I have a question about late model F*$d power steering fluid. My son has a 2003 Ford ZX2 (last of the Escorts). This is a low milage car....17,000 miles. The fluid is a weird color. It's a light gray color, not dark, but not red either. Smells fine. My question is, are there different types of power steering fluid? I thought is was allways red in color. Thanks in addvance for any help you can give me. I don't know anthing about Ford power steering.

The only car I have owned with power steering was a 79 chevy truck and the fluid color was a light yellowish color.

I am going to stop by my local independent auto parts store tommarrow and talk to them. These guys seem to know everything. I might be wrong about thinking that power steering flluid should be red. I don't think I have ever had to add power stering fluid on any of my GM products in the 28 years I have been driving. I am concerned because this stuff was a light grey color, not yellow, not gold like oil, not burnt red....light grey.
