NoGo!

What's goin' on? My engine had been running really rich, so we fooled with the mixture and leaned it out. Since then...there's no go! It lags pretty good under acceleration. I think it might be missing, that's kind of what it feels like. Also it backfires just a little bit after I let off the gas coming from high RPMs.

Anyone know what's happening? Is it missing?

What might be causing this?
I can't believe all this has been
happening lately. My car's never
really given me trouble before.

The carb is the 1406 edel 600cfm. I have no idea what it was stock. I brought it home and it sat a while and when I got it up, it was rich. So I leaned it down with the two center screws. It's pretty low, so maybe I leaned it out too much.

I think the timing is probably pretty good considering the car starts instantaneously and barely cranks at all.
Just an FYI, those two screws on the front of the carb are the idle mixture screws. They dont have anything to do with the mixture when accelerating or cruising. The metering Rods and jets have to be changed to richen or lean out the mixture.

But, it sounds like timing to me too. You should invest is a decent timing light since too much or too little timing can harm the engine and you cant tell which side of the fence you are on without one.
