new member here but long time Nova owner. I have had my 71 Nova since I was 13yo (35 now). Originally a turd brown exterior and cream interior it didnt exactly scream sexy thats for sure. I had it painted when I was 15, orange with dual black racing stripes and I got very lucky and found a 69 SS roller that needed a lot of work and I struck a deal with the owner to let me gut his car so he could turn it into a drag car, so I snagged the 4speed muncie, 12bolt posi rear, disc brakes, full interior and anything else I could get off the car that he didnt want, and switched out everything in mine.
The original 350 2bbl was decent but kinda tired and I wanted to put something with a little more ummph in it, so about 5 years ago, my wife and I did a rebuild on a spare 350 I had laying around out of a camaro with flat-tops, comp cam, edelbrock intake and holley carb, and thats whats in it today. After the rebuild I put it back in storage again until I finally brought it out this year and I have been putting up a pretty nice list of parts to go in there.

Actually tonight I just scored a 468bbc that I will freshen up and drop in there. Wilwood disc brakes are going on all 4 corners and then I really have to get the stance just perfect before I can run the streets.
I will put up pictures soon as the rear wheels are off since I was finishing up my magnaflow exhaust and slapper bars install.

Welcome to the site :waving:

Sounds like you have a history with the car

Hope that you can can post some photos of the car :)
Welcome to SNS, Looking foward to pictures. Keep us posted with the progress on your nova.
Welcome! That's a very long term commitment you've had with the car, it's always nice to be such a big part of the car's history.

I too am from IL, with a '71. :)
thanks for the welcome, I have been on this site more times than I can count getting information from all of you, I figured since I was getting back on my project there was not time like the present to join up.......also the fact that when I was originally working on this car, the internet wasnt even around  .

I am going to be asking some questions on this 468 motor to get it setup correctly for this car. I have always been a small block guy so this is new territory for me.

And I have to take care of some 18yo storage issues with the body and underside. Stored inside thankfully but still took its toll on it for sure.
Welcome to the SNS site. Get some pics posted up. RICK

This is unfortunate to hear. Was the storage space particularly damp? Or maybe a barn with a dirt floor, etc.? I'm curious since we both live in the same region of the country, yet I've never had any issues in this regard. Mine are kept in a cement floored garage with rubber lined carpet under them.

I had it stored in my dad's pole barn, cement floor but not sealed very well at all, and its in Michigan so all in all it wasnt too bad but it still took a toll.

This is it fresh out of 18yo storage

the hood was off unfortunately and was not under the car cover

rough little camaro motor that got yanked

ALTHOUGH the car buffs out beautifully

and the motor loved me for it

Too bad for me though, I used a loaner HEI with a new cap/rotor just to get it up and running, and on the first test drive it left me like this   The contact ripped off the new rotor

My wife and I did the engine rebuild with the help of my brother, but she was really enjoying the resurrection. She really did a knock out job on the painting on the motor and swapping some parts out. I also put her in charge of the 12bolt cleanup and painting since she helped out and bought me the new springs for my birthday.

What part of Illinois you from? I live in NW Indaina.
i am in naperville, west of chicago

tonight I just finished up welding up the supports for the exhaust, now all I have to do is weld in an extension and its all done. I plan on rebuilding the front drums until I get the discs so thats the weekend project.
West burbs here.
The car looks great, I love orange. :)

And it seems that your wife is quite good with axle restorations, it looks beautiful! I wish I could get my wife to be more involved with this stuff, her limit has been to learn the basics of carb disassembly, but only because I forced her too. :(
