How do you remove the screws/bolts holding the tail gate latches? They have a large phillip head screw. I tried to loosen with a regular phillips head screw driver and it did not budge and felt like it was going to strip. Is there a special tool needed to make this easy. Please let me know.

An impact driver works pretty slick on those screws. A few taps with a BFH and they should come out. Be sure the driver tip is the right size. Someone turned me onto PB Blaster a while ago. I havent broken a rusty bolt when I've used it. I presoak fasteners with the PB penetrating oil the day before dissassembly. Works like a charm.

Sears has one for about 25 bucks or so. I couldn't live without mine. You could try a phillips head socket with an extension long enough that you could get your weight behind it.

i like to use a # 3 philips bit, and put a set of vise grips on the shaft, similar to using a bit and a socket for leverage......
