My shop has a mock up engine they SAY is a 305. However while i was looking it over it read 3970010 on the back of the block. This indicates a 350 right?
I checked the pad and it had NOTHING on it. it didnt even look like it was ever stamped!!

is this a 350 or could this be just a 305 like they say?

if there is no number on the pad this would indicate that the deck of the block has been machined im not good with the block numbers so i bet its a 305 if there using it for mock up but im sure someone will que in on this too

The 3970010 Block was used for 350's from 1969 to 1980 and the 1969 Camaro Z28 302. Someone may have gotten confused between the 305 and 302. Too bad the deck numbers are machined off. It could be worth something.
However, If it's a mock up engine, more than likely it's because the block has a fatal, unrepairable flaw such as a major crack.
