I am putting a TH-400 into my brother's '64 Pontiac Catalina so I have to make a new cross member and need to know what angle the motor should be at. I think I remember reading somewhere that it was 6 or 8 degrees. i know this is not a Nova question but I cant work on my Nova until the Pontiac is done.

4 degrees down or thereabouts will be fine...what is your pinion angle set at

I would say 6-8 degrees is generally too much if you have the option to set it. I usually see 2-4 degrees down. As long as you can adjust your pinion angle the correct amount you should be fine. If your eng/trans is 4 degrees down, you want your pinion up 2-3 degrees for correct driveline alignment.

Remember the driveshaft angle plus the pinion angle equals the total angle.
Anytling over 4 degrees will push the nose of the car and doesn't help rear transfer

Put a torpedo level on the carburator pad, when the carb pad is level, your motor should have 2-3 degrees angle. It should be good to go.

Straight axle beat me to it. Put a magnetic angle finder level on the carb pad.
When it's at Zero you are in position.
