i have a 66 with an original stock rear axle. at the time i'm running 235 60 15's with a back space of like 4 or 4 1/8'' no problem. there is 1 1/4'' clearance from inside of the tire to the multi leaf springs this is a rally wheel. i bought some original 67 SS 14'' wheel caps, i like the 67's better than the 66 caps. so i'm going to buy two 14 x 6 BS 4 1/2'' GM style metal wheels from classic ind. an mount a 215 70r14 tire this tire is 25.9'' dia the 235 60 i have on now is 26.1'' dia. so i figure this is 3/4'' dia difference give or so. so that would drop the back down only half of the 3/4'' a drop of 3/8''. an the diference of the rocker ground clearance behind front tire is 5 1/2'' an the measure in front of back tire is 7 3/4'' making a difference of 2 1/4''. so i figure that 3/8'' drop in the rear going from 235 60 15 to a 215 70 14 is still going to look okay ? the front is okay as these caps will fit my 14'' rally wheels. if i didn't loose all you in the numbers does this sound do able ?

The difference in the 235 60 15 to the 215 70 14 is only 1/4". Divide that by 2 is only 1/8" in ride height. I doubt you will to able to see the difference. Should work fine.

to order the two 14 x 6 metal wheels is really pricey for shipping. i found a pair of 14 x 6 rally wheels in my shed that are 3 3/4'' back space. so if i put on a 215 70r14 tire will that fit with no problems. i have 235 60 15's on now at 4-4 1/8'' back space, no problem an are 26.1 dia. so i want to stay near that 26.1 an a 215 70 14 is 25.9. so it's that back space of 3 3/4'' that has me wondering. this is all stock in the rear fenders an axel.

Redrider, how wide are the 15" wheels that you have the 235 60 15's mounted on?

I have 225-60-14 on 14x6 with 4"bs and they just barely fit

215 are not much thinner so I doubt 14x6 with 3 3/4 bs will fit...maybe at 205 would fit with 3 3/4 bs

just adding I have a 1st gen so maybe slightly different fir than your 66

i'm thinking that 3 3/4'' BS is going to be as tight as hot dog skin to the outer fender lips. i'd save 310 bucks for new metal wheels if these worked though.
