Oscar,

If I can offer any advice at all, I'd say invest in yourself! Be creative. Offer services to those around you for pay. Mow lawns, trim bushes, haul garbage, help clean out garages, whatever it takes! Think about what you're willing to do for money and there's a good chance someone will be willing to pay you for it. You never know it could turninto a lucrative career.

Good luck, it's tough out there!

Oscar, you are, eighteen, no?? Not interested in the military? Spend some time, get out, go into college on Uncle Sam? There are so many different branches in the military, one may be a good fit for you.
ya im 18 and im going to college as well, the whole military thing will never be allowed by my mom  if my dad was still here he would say the same thing

With all due respect to your mother, you're 18. At some point you need to make your own decisions. My boys are 21 and 19. I do not have a military background and the military isn't my first choice for them, but in the end, it's not MY decision. If ultimately one of them decides they want a future in the military, then I'l support them 100%.

If you're not inclined to go that direction, fine. Don't let anyone talk you into it. However, if it IS something that interests you, do your homework, make your decision, state your case to mom and get on with your future.

Just my $.02 worth.

My son shocked the hell out of us when, at his 18th birthday, brought Marine recruiters to the house to speak with us. I wasn't in the service, but he took off and did 2 tours of the sandbox. Got himself some automotive training too, which was another thing that shocked us, because he never showed much interest in cars.

Going in the Military does not mean going to war.Check out the Coast guard or the Air force. They are now giving signing bonuses up to 10k and after 4 years the GI Bill you get to go to college is awsome!!Check it out...its a great way to go if you don't know where your going!!

Yep... BM is right. I joined the AF and got a guaranteed job. Started my career off right. Been in the fire service for over 30 years thanks to that start.

A friends son joined the Merchant Marines--he learned how to dance, escort women, drink, dance, attend formal balls, drink, dance, which suit to wear at which ball, dance, did I mention drinking? But, you spend a LOT of time at sea.

I know you have stated that you aren't interested, but I can't complain. At 22, Uncle Sam is treating me quite nicely.

Other than actually joining though, the government usually has a fair amount of contracted jobs available. What is your major in?
