i have just recently started my 383 it seems that the throttle response is very poor and lack of power until secondaries open up. i believe this is because i have a stock quadrajet carb on a well built 383. what do you guys think? i am going to switch to a 750 dp but i was wondering if you thought this was the problem.

I run a q-jet on my 406 and it works just fine. It will run a 13.1 @ 99 on just the primaries, with a 1.85 60' time. With the secondaries hooked up it goes 11.75 @ 117. You'll notice the same thing with any carb, there's a lot more power when you open up the secondaries. I did some 2-bbl to 4-bbl comparisons on the Durango Deuce and switching from a 4412 to a 4779 Holley picked up about 50-60 rwhp.

Make sure the pri. side isn't just too lean. A Q-jet should have super throttle response on the pri. side. It may not accelerate for very long on the tiny pri. but it should be very responsive.
