Has anyone installed a Flaming River steering column into their car. I'm trying to mock mine up in my 68 and the install kit they suggest doesn't come close to fitting. I took the stock mount off the stock column and might have to end up using it, but the only way to attach the bracket is to drill holes into the new column and run screws into it. If I knew they would hold that would be great, but that's a chance I'd rather not take. I've emailed Flaming River, but until I hear back from them, I thought I'd try here. I've attached some pics to show what I'm talking about. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

the bracket that came with install kit is supposed to fit in here, but it doesn't. As you can see from the next picture, the stock bracket has three holes in it and attaches to a fairly big piece under the dash. It isn't just as easy as taking out the stock bracket under the dash and putting the new one in.

They do line up, but then the O part of the billet bracket won't fit into the dash part. If you look at the dash, there are two part, one that's rusty and the other part is black. I don't think I can remove the rusty part as it's connected to other parts under the dash. If I could remove the rusty U shaped part, the billet bracket might fit.
