I had a small water leak from the front of my 1974 inline 6 nova, so I bought every gasket and then ordered the water pump and thermostat housing while I was there. The water pump was part number GMB 1301010. Comparing parts they seemed exact, so I went ahead and put it on, no issues still. The issue occurred when I tried to put the pulley on, the water pump had a small spot where it hit the pulley, while I wasn't happy it wasn't the end of the world, I took my grinder and carefully took off material until the pulley didn't hit. Has anyone else had this issue or heard of it before? (Last photo was with the fix) Oh and yes the shafts where the same length.

To add to Twinshadows superb documentation, there were also multiple different pulleys used through the classic period (1960s & '70s). You can see the variations in pulley hub designs in the pics. This happened with V8s as well. GM changed parts design far more often than people realize. A good example - there are 16 different unique part number applications for Chevy II front coil springs listed in the late 1966 Chevy master parts book.
