In Memory of Andy!

Hi All!
My name is Jeremy -
I'd like to show you the 69 Nova that I bought from my friend's father. My friend, Andy Allen, owned the car, but sadly passed on May 3rd, 2011 (age 31), in a motorcycle crash on the 91 in L.A. (a car ran out of fuel in the carpool lane, and traffic suddenly bunched up on him - that's all I really know about the accident). I was with Andy when he bought this Nova, back in 2003 or '04.

It's a 350 4 barrel, powerglide, 12 bolt, vinyl top, rubber floor mat car. Somewhat of a rare combination I've been told (rubber floor mats and vinyl top?, ~275hp 350 with a 12 bolt?). I'm not sure if it was originally white, but it's white now.

I'm working in China (have been since 2004 - EFI Engineer and Director of R&D of a small EFI company), so I haven't seen the car in ages, but it's been shipped to my parents' farm in Iowa, and I've installed some new wheels (American Racing VN701, 17x8 wheels), bought a ~600hp supercharged 383 (carbed, but got an EFI manifold for it - that's my job) and th350 trans (Andy converted it to a 700r4, but I got the trans with the new engine, and it'll hold up better to the power), and also got a Pypes race pro 3" exhaust. I haven't been back yet to install the go-fast stuff, but my father was able to put the wheels on (he's a mechanic, but I want to do the work together with him on a vacation sometime).

Anyway - hopefully I'll be able to make some fun improvements to the car over the next few years and enjoy the memories I have of Andy. I'll try to give his father a chance to power tour it or something as well.

Here are some pics! (hope this works)

Andy will be looking down smiling while you build the Nova for both of you.
I say you commemorate the first set of rear tires to him, and smoke the heck outa them when you get that stroker motor in there! Sorry to hear about your friend, I HATE driving the 91 fwy. Sounds like you have good plans for the car.

new to the site as well and just came to this forum, clicked on this thread at random and found crazy similarities.

I moved from Iowa to Orange County when I was 17 back in the late 80s and still have a ton of family there around the Des Moines area. I spent most of my life riding dirt and enduro bikes including my first ticket for no license on a bike when I was 14. I moved to CA and started looking at sport bikes and my mom restricted me to wait until I was 18 (her house, her rules!) and I am glad she did. In that one year I had met several guys that had been over the bars on bikes getting cut off or pinched on the freeways with sudden lane changes and traffic stops, mostly on the 22 and 57 (you know you are SoCal when highways and interstates start with the word "the"), and the 91 is a nightmare of an artery, so I can really empathize for you and your buddy. Such a bummer, sorry for your loss.

I moved to CO 5-1/2 yrs ago and can say the drivers are far worse here believe it or not, so my dreams of getting a bike for mountain cruising have been dashed upon the rocks yet again. I get pulled in front of all the time in an EXCURSION so imagine the lack of concern they would have for a bike! It is near daily someone pulls out in front of me from a side street  They just meander out and it is up to you to hit the brakes or figure out how to get around them. Weirdest thing I have ever seen.

All that said, best of luck with the car! Sounds like a wicked engine combo.

Thanks for all of the kind words, guys!

Since I'm stuck in China for a while, I'm not sure when I'll get to enjoy my cars... But, at least it has allowed me to afford to do it right.

I'm planning to return to the States to do aftermarket EFI stuff, so I've even been able to purchase a MD1750de chassis dyno and an old SF800 engine dyno.

I've got a few other cars to play with as well - '79 Malibu (put a TPI 350 and 700r4 in it, 3.73 rear), '89 GTA (350TPI, mostly stock, but have some go-fast stuff for it), 91 Z28 (383, and got some goodies for it- Bear brakes, 12bolt, FIRST intake, Vortech supercharger, built 4L60E - I'll design a controller for that trans), and a few other cars/trucks to play with if I want. I had started to develop a transmission controller with Andy, but that's been derailed for the time being (I have the software and hardware done, but no one to test).

Anyway - looking for some good brakes, sub-frame connectors, and things to make it handle well (anti-roll bars, springs and shocks, etc...). And, if the paint doesn't polish up very well, I'll find a place to get'r done.

HOW LONG ARE YOU IN CHINA? ARE YOU MILITARY?
I've been in China for over 7.5 years, and probably will be here another 3 years or so. I'm the Director of R&D for an EFI company - we make the ECUs for some smaller OEM car and motorcycle companies here.

It's always interesting over here...

Aloha Jeremy,

God Bless you for honoring Andy and for serving your Country as well...! What a great story to tell, I'm sure Andy's start on this car and your finish will be absolutely perfect...

Keep the updates coming, I'm sure your honorary project is appreciated by many !

Awesome...!

Thanks! But, I must let you know that I'm not in the military. I was sent to China back in 2004 for what was supposed to be 3 months to develop an EFI computer for our JV partners here... Ended up getting married and having 2 kids, and built up the technology of the company to compete with Bosch and Delphi on the smaller projects.
