Decided to go with bright orange and a white cowl a week or so ago. Then a car guy from my neighborhood offered to teach me body work and let me prep my nova in his driveway next to his vette that is also getting a new coat of paint.

Before this I was always too scared to even take sandpaper to the car, just lack of confidence. Sanding down just the little section of fender did a world of difference, and I got a feel for it now.

This will be fun:cool:

Good luck! Can't wait to see it when it's all done. Consider it Nova education! Gracie will be beautiful!
Paint/prep 101! Have had nothing but drunk fun so far :D Lets see if today the paint stripping process is as fun without the 18 pack swirling through my bloodstream.

I am very excited to see even any progress at all though! This car is really coming along now that I have put my focus into it! Its amazing to think that in April, it was sitting on the side of the house covered in dust and spiderwebs, dead battery, etc.

Today, It has a whole new front suspension, new motor (well, 2 of potential cores sitting in the garage), and a new paintjob in the works..about three weeks or so out.

I wont even recognize the car in a month!
good luck with it. And hope it turns out good.
HAHA well Greg I figure the worst that can happen is I learn something right? And get a new fresh coat of flat? Were going to see if I can pull off the orange though!
Help!

Am looking for a good resource to brush up on my paint/bodywork skills. Have found some very good articles online, but they are eluding me right now. I have no books on the subject.

Any clues where I could go for some good info? Step by step would be cool. I like information, so indepth is aok!
YOUTUBE CAN HELP ALOT THESE DAYS, BUT THERE ARE ALOT OF ONLINE TECHNIQUES, BUT I'VE FOUND THAT PRACTICING IS WHAT GET YOU GOOD.

GET AN OLD HOOD OR FENDER YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT AND PRACTICE REPAIRING IT, SANDING, NECESSARY FILLER AND PAINTING IT.

BANG IT UP AND DO IT AGAIN OR FIND ANOTHER FENDER! GET YOURSELF A HAMMER AND DOLLY KIT FOR BODY STRAIGHTNING, FOR ME LEARNING HANDS ON IS BEST WAY AND FROM PEOPLE THAT KNOW. BOOKS NEVER WORKED FOR ME.

I agree with you 10,000% (if thats even mathematically possible!)! I find that I always feel lost until I get some hands on experience. Then I just take off and run. Im lucky enough to live right next to a guy who has the experience and tools to get the job done. I havent even finished the first fender yet and feel a hundred times more confident! Been reading online for weeks, but the 3 days I learned much more than all the reading....Good thing is now that I have done some hands on, the reading all seems to come together now! Im also thinking of adding some body and paint tools to my set up, so I can easily pick up a project in the future. I seem to be picking it up very quickly...Although, the pictures I am posting are my first project, so go easy on me all you master body guys out there

Im proud of my progress tho:D:D:D

Fender primed, ready for fine tuning. The imperfections will be worked out, and the molding holes filled. Ill put the SS trim on later. (Yes, I am going to put the Super Sport trim on, I think that looks sooooooo clean!!!)

I hope to work the right fender tonight or tomorrow, and hood next. Work my way to the back and when shes all primed up, I will figure out how to spray the paint....I never thought so much progress could be made in such a short time! Makes me wonder why I havent been doing this from day one!

I was always afraid to touch body work...and now I see that apparently, according to my jedi master I am a natural. I just call it pride in my work. I cant wait till I actually get good at it! Its an art!

No LB BBQ for me, but it was almost worth it. I still cant get over my white nose section! It looks so rad!!! Progress my friends...Progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bodywork not so scary anymore. Getting a good feel for it is tricky, but two weeks ago, I would have had no clue where to get this started!

Wow Nate!!! Looking good! You have accomplished and learned so much in a short amount of time. I'm keeping an eye on this thread. You are getting there! Can't wait to see the outcome. You go!!!!
Looking good! When you going to spray on the guide coat and start block sanding?

John
John its just been a lot of fill and sand. We did a half effort guide cote but I really didnt get much accomplished with it, and ended up going over and redoing most of what I had already done by that point:D

I am making a few mistakes here and there, creating extra work for myself, but it is a part of learning and I am having fun at the end of the day...Just ready, way past ready to move on to the next area..I have been stuck on these doors for days! Just wanna blast through those quarters and prime it already! Will look niiiiice!

Will finish off the sunday with some body work and a 6 pack I think. Or....start the six pack and body work right now:yes:

Just take it a panel at time. Trying to do it all at once will discourage you very quickly.
