We're about to setup the steering in the '63 wagon with an alston front clip and a 700R4 trans. We are going to get an ididit tilt column but are unsure of the proper length and whether or not to go with the shifter on the column or just get a floor mount lokar unit. If anybody has any advice it would be great. Thanks.

Well the Ididit Nova retro-fit column is 30 inches. I bought one and found that it seemed to short to allow clearance for the steering shaft to header. I ordered a 32" unit and it fits great. One more thing to consider is the shaft spline type the nova retro is 3/4-36 but most of the universal columns are 1" double D. make sure you get the appropriate U-joint type, Heidts offers a nice 3/4-36 kit with the shaft.

As far as the shifter is concerned that's a choice you'll have to make do YOU want column or floor shift? I know the column shift columns are pretty high. If you go with a floor shifter I would consider a ratchet type Hurst or B&M unit.
