How is everyone doing? I recently purchase a 69 nova from one of my Marines. He had a 383 Stroker/ road cage/ turbo 350 transmission/ stock 10 bolt rear end. Nothing really special so I torn the engine down and found out that what I'm trying to do I wouldn't be able to with the parts he had. What I'm trying to do now is build my engine around the heads that I purchase which are the AFR SBC 227CC Race Ready 65CC chambers heads designed to operate in the 5000-8000RPM range. I gave the Stroker engine to my younger brother who really needed a good engine. My problem is I only know information about 66 plymouth b/c that was my first car and I only focus on it everything else I didn't pay attention but now with my new toy I want to learn as much as possible and achieve my goal in the subject line. If everyone knows a good combination on how to achieve that and willing to share the information I would really be thankful.

I think a nice little M 400 block for solid base for those heads

Nice lunati crank along the lines of this

Nice rods and forged pistons, morels roller lifters, all arp fasteners and would get custom ground roller cam. Maybe 4/7 swap? Single plane victor, and pro systems 850.

That's my two cents, sure plenty will chime in.
You make no mention of the car really. Is it a all stock body with a full interior? Stock wheel wells and leaf springs I guess? Does it have positraction and what gear? Torque converter stock> Got headers? What type roll cage and is it legal? You'll need a good motor but you'll also need the rest of the package to go that quick
Need to go to member intro, say hi and give a description of your car and things done to it. DON'T FORGET THE PICTURES!:D.
WELCOME lots of good knowledgeable people on here.

1969 Nova fiberglass fenders/hood/bumpers, interior has been stripped completely it only has two bucket seat up front, unfortunately it doesn't have positraction, gear I really don't know but I'm thinking of going with a 3.91-4.10 gear, it has long tube headers, leaf springs with traction bars, transmission is completely stock. I know i have a long way to go but I have to start somewhere pictures and updating my profile is coming soon currenting I'm on my iPad and can't upload pics. This project is not only me I hav a few friends who are going to help out. All of their ideas are what they have heard from others and I just decided to come to the experts to nova's and get advise.
Is this a strip only car or something you plan to drive and take to the strip once in awhile? What about the roll cage? is it a legal cage or just a roll bar? We'll help you spend your hard earned dollars.......LOL

This is going to be a strip only car. It's a full cage. Weather it's legal or not i'm unsure but it has a full halo, eight to ten points of contact with the chassis, both bars along the doors run from the chassis to about shoulder height, single bars that runs behind both seats that is at shoulder height, two from the halo to the rear of the car, two from the halo along the a pillars threw the dash to the chassis. This is really a horrible word picture of the cage but if you can view my photo album i have pictures of it that would do better justice.
If it were me since the motor is the easy part,as many cubes as the heads can handle, I would start working on the car. I would decide what type racing I was going to do and what size tire and suspension I was going to use. Stock suspension small tire or something different. Tire size will help determine what gear you'll need. Then I'd decide if the 10 bolt rearend was going to be strong enough or if I needed to go with a 9 inch rearend. The 10 bolt upgrades, spool, axels, c clip eliminators, cover girdle and a gear set and bearings, might cost more than a new 9 inch Ford replacement kit. The possible mini tubes, full tubs and back halved suspension, will reflect back on the roll cage which you may want to have checked at that point. You'll need to be thinking about stopping too and what brakes you'll need. The fuel cell or gas tank goes along with a fuel supply and pump. So my point is you'll go nowhere without a decent car so don't spend the whole fortune on the motor. LOL just my thoughts

Go pull a junkyard lm7 5.3 for $300-$700, do a big single turbo, enjoy.

Blow the engine?

Go pull another for $300-$700

Lots of junkyard LS style motors running REAL fast on simple turbo setups.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you talking about low to mid 6's in the 1/8th mile?????

Because if you are then a decent stroker and good tires can get you there. If its in 1320 that is mega buck land. Didnt Larry Larson's Nova do high 6's for drag week this year?
I think he's talking 1/8 mile because running 6s in 1/4 is so unrealistic.

And expensive as hell!

Oh come on guys....A simple 3 stage 1500 HP shot of nitrous would do it....maybe once.......LOL:devil::devil:
Hydrogen peroxide rocket engine on that stock suspension car might do it

Yes i'm talking about the 1/8th of a mile. I wouldn't want to drive something that could run a 6 in the 1320. I have achieve a few of my goals in life but thats not one of them. Lol

Driving a car that would do 6's in the 1/4 Mile, i think would be a very very cool experience that not many people would ever have the chance to do. I will probably never do it but givin the chance I'd be all over it
Found one RM!!!

Real McCoy I just happen to have one lying around...see pic for proof!!!!!
A simple engine swap and he's off to 6's in the 1320!!!

My wife loves it and thinks nothing of it but she's been doing it for years. At the track people always ask me if I drive it or want to drive it and I always tell them "not in a million years". I've driven 10 sec cars but have no desire to jump in one of these low 6 sec 225 mph cars. In 4 seconds it's 180 mph so things just happen way too fast. I have a knot in my stomach every time she goes down the track but I like wrenching & tuning on it much better. I think I'm regulated to driving the golf cart.

Sometimes they get a little sideways and scare the heck out of the track photograhers.

I would have enjoyed going faster when I was younger but today if I was running 1/4 mile I'd be going 8.0s at 170 MPH which is just silly to do round after round running for a small purse at weekly events. I'm much happier running 5.30 at 135 MPH in 1/8 mile. Purse is the same and it's safer, moves along faster, and doesn't cost near as much as running that extra 660 ft. If I had to run 1/4 mile I'd want to run 9.50 or slower. The thrill is winning the round and the race, not being the fastest first round loser.
