How do I tell if my 64 is a true ss? The vin number is correct but my car came with a column shift powerglide.. plz help
The VIN will have an 0447 in it. Unfortunately, there was no way to tell from the '64 VIN or cowl tag whether the SS was a V/8 or six. All 1964 SS cars with powerglide had the tranny selector in a console between bucket seats.
All others had the selector on the column.

You could have a column shifted SS if it were a 3 speed manual. The PG was all floor shift as well as the muncie.

And on the '64 SS there was no console with the 3 speed manual on the column or the 4 speed on the floor.
