Well the one motor that I found was sold before I would find time to go see it but I found another one in South Bend for sale. It's a 2 bolt main 454 short block with light surface rust. Has provisions for mechanical fuel pump but the guy claims that it CANNOT be used with a roller camshaft since it's to old. Is there any truth to this? I've seen older blocks using rollers I thought, he said I would have to use a mechanical flat tappet cam in it. He's not sure what year it is from or what it came out of but said "It's not a newer block". Any way I can tell if it's a roller block or not?

You just need to buy the retro fit hydraulic roller lifters if that's what you want to install in the engine. A solid roller can be used with no problems either. Also with the older block, they don't have the thrust plate to hold the cam in place so you use a thrust button.
