Hi;

I have a 250 inline six on a 68'. It's been already 4 years I changed the head for a 235 and put new head gasket. So far no problem but sometimes when waiting in the traffic I can hear some little clatter.

Does the valve adjustment have to be done periodically or once you do it with the hydraulic lifters no need to disrupt until head problems come by?

Its not a bad idea to check them after a rebuild. There are a few things that I have seen happen, though I don't remember the rocker stud arrangement on the 235 head. When I was at the machine shop we got a bad batch of rocker nuts and they would back off. I have also seen pressed in studs start to pull out changing the adjustment. I like to adjust the rockers and then mark the nuts with a paint pen so I can keep an eye on them to make sure they don't move. It also allows easy adjustments later, because if I want to add or remove preload, I just move all the dots on the nuts to the same position.
