I had a shop install an Art Morrison 8 pt cage with alston swingouts and a removable backbrace for easy access to the back seat. mild steel mig welded, i paid $1400. I was never happy with the fit and the welds.:(

I recently cut the cage out and had a chrome moly 10 point custom bent cage installed all tig welded. just over $3000. I am fully happy this time around even though my wallet is a little thin these days.:D

They will protect you from a side impact as well as welded diagonal bars, but you loose pretty much all torsional ridigity, as they are basically on hinges.

Learn from my mistakes, don't just go with the best price. Look at cars at car shows or at the track, and you will see that no 2 cages are the same. Look at the difference between a mig welded cage and a tig welded cage. Tig welds look much nicer but also cost more. Look at the difference between a pre-bent and a custom bent cage. Look at how well fit the cage is in the car, and how well fit the tubes are to each other, and how even side to side the gaps are from the cage to the body. There are many levels of craftmanship out there, my first cage was a level 3 at best and my current cage is a level 10 IMO. I had to spend alot more for my second cage but it is a chromemoly, custom bent and tig welded cage. Find out what you like best and where it was done at. Lastly, swingouts are nice and convient but for me they were a PIA. I am much happier with no swingouts and my car is much stronger because of it.
