My 1976 Chevy Nova just arrived a few hours ago, so I thought i'd introduce myself and get acquainted with the forums. I'm a 17 year old from the valley of the sun and i'm happy to say that the Nova is my first car. Originally, I wanted a Plymouth Barracuda, but we all know how that goes... I went to an auction recently and low and behold, there it was. I guess this was one of those "diamond in the rough" moments. Surprisingly, I won the bid for $300. I'm hoping I can find a lot of helpful information on this site for my restoration journey ahead. :)

I know this probably isn't the thread to be posting questions in, but does anyone know how to open the trunk of a 1976 Nova when the lock is gone? The last person to own the car left a bunch of stuff in the trunk, but I can't get to it.

Thanks for the comments guys! Yes, I am a girl (hence the display name). *Girl Power* :D

I'm still undecided about the specifics, but I know it will be a Yenko tribute car. I'm thinking metallic silver for the exterior and since the interior was originally GM's firethorn, i'll keep it that way. The Yenko design will also match (or as close as I can find) the color of the interior. I'm also thinking of having a custom grill designed. Engine wise, i'm not too sure. Keep in mind this car is going to be a daily driver. Luckily, the previous owner replaced the factory V6 with a V8.

I'm currently in Gilbert, Arizona. I picked up my Nova from a Phoenix auction.

I did manage to get into the trunk thanks to my trusty screwdriver. I really need to have the keys made. The funniest thing happened too. When I opened the trunk, it was filled with black garbage bags... that really freaked me out. I really thought I may have had a dead body in my car. I threw the bag on the ground as soon as I picked it up because I heard a little girl talking inside. How freaky is that? I discovered it was just a doll though (the one that has freakishly big eyes and poops...). Turns out the bags were filled with tons of clothes, toys, and jewelry. I kept a few things, but the rest I donated to a local Goodwill.

Here's a few pics to show you guys what i'm working with:

Hi Ashlee, welcome to the site. Glad to see you saved a 4th gen! You'll find lots of great folks and tons of advice here.

You'll find some of the plastic stuff (fender extensions, etc.) on eBay occasionally. Good luck with the build.

Welcome to the site, congrats on the Nova. It's good that the younger generation is keeping the hobby strong and we're seeing some growth with our lady population here on the site!
