Hi.

Trying to trouble shoot the heater realy in my 76 nova.

Can't seem to find the relay in any of the schematics posted here ( 77, 78 )

The schematics show the heater switch and the resistor block, but that's about all. There is a second switch involved ( off-cold-hot-defrost lever ) and I can't find that either.

Hi firebird77clone,

A relay is only used in the heater blower circuit on cars with AC. Most wiring diagrams have separate pages for optional equipment like AC. If the diagrams you're looking at don't show the optional accessory wiring, send me a PM and I'll see if I can scan a copy of the AC wiring for you.

Mucho thanks for the offer, but I tracked the problem visually.

Turns out the relay energizer wire ( orange ) goes to the fan switch.

I pulled the fan switch apart, cleaned it, and reassembled. Problem solved.

EXCEPT that the relay is badly corroded. I cleaned the contacts but still no go. Apparently the 'finger' is so badly corroded that it won't conduct.
