I had a question about header gaskets? What's a good one for a sqare port sbc? I have a leak on the passenger side coming from the gasket. I think it's no good. Not surprised since I bought the cheapest ones last time.

Thanks alot.

We run the metal gaskets you can get at autozone...My dads 15.5:1:eek: 383 powered camaro is running the metal gaskets and we've reused them with 2 or 3 motors in the camaro, they have currently gone about 1200 miles on that radical 383 no problem:D

Spring for the copper gaskets. They might leak, but will NEVER blow out. If they start to leak, you can just tighten them down and you're good.

If paper gaskets leak, they will blow out in no time, then you are unbolting the headders, and THAT is no fun.

Header Leak

You might find out that its not the gasket, but the weld on the inside of the header tube has cracked or come loose..I have had two sets of Hookers Headers where the weld has crack inside the number 1 and 3 cylinder and needed to be rewelded...

To confirm this a few weeks back. I took the header loose and ran my finger inside the tube only to find out what I had expected, the weld to metal flange had seperated or cracked...I filled it full of high temp silcone and that has corrected the problem for the short term..

We had that happen to...with a radical small block it sounds like the world is coming to an end. We just welded the headers a bit they were almost to thin but no problems ever with metal gaskets they are the best and IMO the only way to go:yes:
