For grinding down MIG welds on sheetmetal, what is the best thing to use? From what I understand, a 4" grinding wheel creates too much heat, as well as a 4" grinder with sanding disc on it. Would the best thing be a high speed cutting wheel tool with a 2" or 3" sanding disc on it, like this:

(Remove paint, residue and rust on metal objects. With three different grits you get professional finishes every time. Comes with two different sizes for a variety of jobs.)

is what it says about those disk's, you'll be there all day trying to knock down welds, use a grinder with either 36 or 40 or even a grinding disk.....

Grinding sheetmetal mig welds

I used a die grinder with a cut off wheel to knonk the weld down a bit, they provide great cutting and minimal frictionm ie; heat.
then you can use a 4" flap wheel, but dont work any one spot to long as the metal will oil can.
Its also a good idea to keep a damp rag around to coolthe metal down as you grind.
GOO LUCK

I do this as well that way you are not grinding on the metal outside of the weld thinning it unnessesarily. Cut off wheel to knock the weld down then 3" roloc disc to level out.
Tom
I use a flap disk as well.....grinds and finishes in 1 step
Two questions.....what's a roloc disc? And what's a flap disk?

THANKS!!!

x 1000000. Flap disc on an angle grinder. I won't use anything else!!

Look at this link for how to finish welds using a flap disc:

But what if my angle grinder spins the other way?

Just kidding!!! Thanks for the pic. I'll be getting some of those soon. And I guess that will take some of the pressure off me getting a bigger air compressor soon because I thought I was looking at using a high speed cutting tool. Thanks!!
