I have a 72 nova with a 8.5 rearend with 4.56 gears.I got some 4.88 gears from a friend to fit an 8.5 will they work with out any grinding to get them to fit or will they just work
what are u running for a combo that u need that much gear?! hopefully 1/8 mile with small cubes,im running a small block with 4:11's and th350 in the 11:40's
with 4.56 and 28" tires i ran clear out of gear in the 1/4. if i go with a bigger nitrous hit this year i'll almost have to put my 3.73's back in to run 1/4. 1/8th should not be a problem but i don't think it's worth the effort to swap them. you're losing a lot of top end and unless you're running a glide or a 4spd with a tall first i don't think you'll notice a difference down low.
Yea! I went to a powerglide this year with a protree transbrake thats why i wanted to go with the 4.88 I have a 406 small block. This is 1/8 mile track
a 1.76 glide with a 4.88 has an overall ratio or 8.58,,, a turbo with a 2.48 first gear equals this with a 3.46 rear gear.
I tried a 557 gear with a glide a while in the 1/8 with a 355,, i liked it. I had a 1.82 first gear with a 557, that equals an 10.13 overall first gear ratio. That equals a turbo with roughly a 410 gear overall first gear ratio.
