Is there any way of telling which fuel tank came on my car. The car is a true 1970 SS small block. 3/8" lines. I want to replace the tank but not sure which one to get. The tank has been changed once already and has a vented cap. There is also a line coming off the pickup that is blocked off.
The car has a electric fuel pump now that I will be changing out for a mech one. Electric to noisey.

Thanks, Steves70SS

Hi Steve,

I think the only 1970 cars to be equipped with the EEC (Evaporative Emission Control) system were those that were originally sold in California. Cars sold in other states didn't get the EEC system until 1971. So if you have some original paperwork that shows where your car was sold new, you could use that to see if it originally had the EEC system or not.

You can also check for the presence of a liquid/vapor separator that was used with the EEC system. I believe it was located in the trunk right behind the rear seat in 70-72 Novas (later incorporated into the tank itself on 73-up).

If the line that's capped off is a smaller 5/16 line, then that's for a return line from the fuel pump. The E.E.C. lines were all on the passenger side front of the tank, with one line running from the charcoal canister to the driver side front corner of the tank. Only the fuel pick up and return lines go thru the sending unit.
