How many gallons does a fuel tank on a 72 hold?

According to my well worn and faded owners manual it has a 16.0 gallon tank

There was a thread on here a while back about this...It SAYS it holds 16 gallons, BUT most agreed that it was really around 13 or 14 gallons. I looked for it, but couldn't find the thread
