Does the weight go towards the motor or the transmission?

Thanks

They sometimes say right on them "engine side". Plus as I recall its pretty obvious how it bolts on when you hold it up. It's been awhile since I played with a flex plate (I like manuals) but I think if you mock it up it will be obvious.
On flex plates with or without the weight the raised pads for the torque convertor go towards the transmission.
Thanks for the info. I'm going out to put it on now. Its 6:45 am and only 89 degrees.
Do you have a Turbo 400? I have a turbo 350 and I had a terrible vibration. I finally pulled the tranny and the flex plate had a weight on it designed for a Turbo 400. Once I changed the flex plate, the vibration was gone.
I have never seen a flywheel that's balanced for a specific trans. It would always be balanced according to the engine. It sounds as if you likely had one for an externally balanced engine on an internal balanced unit, or vice versa.
I am with Carl on this, the flex plate is balanced for the engine. 400 sb and all Gen I BB except the 396 and 427 had a weight on the flexplate.

Yes...my bad. I re-read my post and I meant to say the flexplate installed on my car was for a 400 small block....not a turbo 400....sorry. Either way, my point was to make sure he wasn't putting a weighted flexplate on a 350 small block and run into the same problem I had. Thanks
