Hi I am new to the chevy ll so I am looking for some help on getting a 275x60 tire in the back of my 64 nova with stock style suspension. Looking to do some Grudge Racing. The car will have some good power to the ground!
I am planing on going with a Smith Racecraft front clip and a Moser rear end.

Also wondering the same thing, im doing the same thing with a 67 nova wagon.
I see some wheelwell/frame work in your future

You dont think i could fit one if relocate spring and add 2" to the wheel tub? Also i could roll the inner edge?
I not going to say it can't be done, but will take some work. I have MT 255/60R-15 ETs in my 67 with leaf springs, rear end in stock location and shortened 1/2" on each side. They barely fit even after rolling the edge and triming the inside corners. I know the 64's have a much smaller wheel well opening, so with a bigger diameter you will have to move the 275 tire much further in than I did. I know it has been done with a 4-link, but don't of anyone who has done it with leaf springs.
It can be done and fairly easily. I fit a 315 under my 67 nova with notching the rails, moving the springs (calvert split monos with a 1.5" drop) and using a 10" wheel with 4" back spacing. I narrowed the rear 2 5/8" per side so I could run the wheel I wanted otherwise you use a 6.5" bs 10" wheel with a stock width rear.

To fit a 275 you move springs inboard, relocate shocks, stretch factory wheelwell and you are good to go.
I fit 275's under my 67 and just had to stretch the wheel openings. No relocation of the springs. The shocks get bolted to my slapper bars that's the only relocation I had to do with them.

Can't say anything about the tires but the moser rear end is very loud and if your going to drive on the street you might want to do a little research to make sure moser is what you want. Good luck
Thanks for a lot of inputs and what do you mean when you say the moser is noisy? Like in a bad way.
Also does anyone no if a wavetrac is at all comparable to a spool for drag racing?

its all in the luck of the draw, i Bought a moser for my Monte SS and it was whisper quiet. 12 bolt spool 411 gears.

The chevelle 12 bolt in my Nova is on its 3rd set of gears and still loud.
I bought the 370 moser and every time I let off the gas you could hear a whine or hum so I had it checked and was told it was set up correct. I did a google search on rear end whine and found a number of blogs that said the gears are good but are cut different which make them whine. I did read that you can get some moser gears that are not noisy but more ofted then not they are. I guess it is the luck of the draw. So far I've left it because I don't drive the car much and don't have the extra money to change them. If I had it to do all over I would have done more research before buying. Now I just turn up the radio a little and not think about it

Just run full 3" exhaust and some Super 44 Flowmasters and you won't even need the radio on or even have a radio.:D:devil::D

Lol yeah I tout of that as well
I have a 295/65-15 MT tire in my 65, but not without some work. We did a 2" mini tub, moved the springs in the same 2". C/E rear frame rail kit and crossmember, S&W 8 point roll bar and a Moser 9" rear. Also moved the rear back 1" for fitment. Fits like a glove. Dave

I guess I'll have to put a radio in now!

Can you guys post up some pix of the rear ends and min tubs you have done to your car...
Here is the link to my photobucket account. This car would fit a 315 radial or 29x10.5 slick.
Fitting a 275 is easier but you will get the idea.

It doesnt show the sliders in the rear but those may be in my main album....
I have 255/60/15 under my 66 and 275/60/15 et streets barely fit my 72 nova- they rub around corners with lips rolled.
Why not just go with 255's?! Some people can get in the 9's on even the 235's from what I have read.

Fixed it. :D
