trying to get my fan closer to the rad.
what would be the max. (safe) spacer length.
this is a mechanical fan.

can you use fan spacers on clutch fans ?
if so what length would be safe?

thanks, roger

Dont go to close, i ruined a shroud and radiator by wanting it to be close, and the flex fan blades moved forward from suction force and somehow caught the shroud, i have mine 1-1/4" away now and 2/3 of the blades out of the shroud and works real nice using a 1" spacer on a BBC and long pump.

As stated above, 2/3's out 1/3rd into the shroud is a good location. Without a shroud fans should be around 3/4" from the rad. You may be able to move the rad rearward to acheive the distance you need. Some fabrication of a spacer would be needed. 62-67 cars had a 2" spacer for the V8 cars. When possible(or needed) a shroud is your best cooling friend.
