Fan Relay

150 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  twin11
Completed an LS3 connect and cruise swap in my 70 Nova in February. I have recently started having problems with my cooling fan relay blowing. I have replaced the relay three times in two weeks. Single fan on the radiator with two wires from the fan harness connected to the Blue fan control wire from the fuse box and fan ground wire connected to the inner fender well. Drove the car over 750 miles last month. Stop and go traffic on the interstate in Atlanta and Chattanooga. No issues.

Any ideas on what is causing the issue.

How do you have the relay wired? See if this link helps.

Alot of missing info. What is the fan amp rating? You may have to small of a relay,Chinese crap relay, to small of wire and or poor terminals for the amps running. Also you said there was two wires from the harness. Some harnesses have a high and and a low. Some fans also have a high and low windings. You can tell if the fan has high/low because it will have 3 wires out of the motor. They can't be connected together.
Throwing ideas out there.

The connect and cruise fuse box has a single blue wire running from it that controls the fan. I have the two wires from the fan connected to this blue wire. In the fuse box there is a 30 amp relay for the fan circuit This is the relay that keeps blowing.

Connected per the ECM Controller instructions that came with the kit:

"A cooling fan is controlled by the ECM. Control is set to turn on a 12 V fan at 97 Deg C (207 Deg F) coolant temperature. The fan control wire is fused/relayed and must be connected directly to your fan."
Excellent relay and easy to connect are the Volvo fan relays. Google it. It can be used for 1 or two fans or 2 speed fans.
