In 1963 Chevrolet came out with a new bigger Turbo-Thift 230 c.i. Inline Six rated at 140 HP. How can I tell the difference between this engine and the 194 c.i. engine? Can the engine ID number tell me. Are the lifter gallery side plates taller or wider on the 230 than the 194?

If I remember correctly, the 230 I have came out of a 65 C-10 and it actually had the numbers 230 stamped somewhere on the block. I believe the numbers were stamped above the side plates, and I also remember the earlier 250's also have the number 250 stamped on the block.

Here's a site devoted to Inline's: http://www.inliners.org/

There it is

:) Just checked the casting number on the link provided inliner.org. It confirms I have the 194 c.i. thanks for the information.
