Does anyone have a picture of an ALL original motor in a 3rd gen? I'm pretty sure the engine compartment was black. But what color was the motor, and any intricate details I need to know?

It's a little rough but it is all original. There are different levels of gloss or matte, with the blacks and the engine is Chevy orange. The hinges and latch are phosphorus coated, it's like a really dark grey are faded black, very flat. It can be simulated with flat black sprayed on, and while it's wet spray a real light coat of cast gray from 18" so it is like over spray. If you try it on old parts you should be able to achieve the look you want.

my motor looks in similar condition. Trying to do some homework so I have all the details from the factory down to a tee. Any idea of what color the exhaust manifolds were?

Btw off topic, I just ordered a 3x5 bronze plaque to go inside the engine compartment that says "Restoration in memory of Hazel Jacobs". I know it's a little premature to order it but I've always wanted one since I got the car. I can't wait to see it! Only $10 too :D

The manifolds were cast unpainted, I think Eastwood sells high heat paint. I used some VHT manifold paint on our race car, it is 2 part paint with curing procedures and we got a season with them looking good under extreme conditions.

Here's mine, brand new on the lot!! Guess it's kind of hard to see the colors. The exhaust manifolds have overspray on them from when they painted the engine at the factory. That was pointed out to me a couple years ago. I didn't even notice it when I picked it up, "back in the day!!"

the only difference between our engines is my air cleaner isn't chrome on top, it was all black with no decals on it, and mine is air conditioned from the factory. Do you still have the original manifolds that came with it? I'm thinking about going back to the single exhaust. I now have Hooker long tube headers into x pipe, then flowmasters into dumps. It's to much for the car, and I really want to go all original (but I love the way it sounds!!)

The short answer is no, I don't have the original manifolds or air cleaner. Got rid of them a few years after I bought the car and have regretted it ever since.:( I mean, who knew I was gonna keep her for 43+ years??!! I, too, have Hooker headers, an x-pipe and the transverse Flowmaster. Yep, makes a great sound!!
