My engine is shutting off when the fuel pump gets turned on. Anyone know why this may be happening?

The pressure out of the pump may be too much overwhelming the needle and seat thus flooding out the engine and killing it.

The fuel pump may be getting power from a common source as the ignition system and the voltage may be dropping enough to kill the ignition system.
