So... I messed up my timing.

I installed a new intake on my engine and messed up the timing. I though I set it back right but once i started it the motor idles erratic and sounds to be missing. now that I've already fired the motor and moved everything, is there a way to basically do a restart and get the timing set right? Thanks

Turn the engine over until you reach Top Dead Center on the combustion stroke. Once you've done that drop in your distributor with number one on the cap pointing towards the number one cylinder. Be sure to check that its not flipped 180

to clarify last post..

when you get the engine on TDC #1.. make sure the ROTOR BUTTON is pointing at the terminal in the cap which is WIRED to #1.

then, verify that your wires are placed on the cap to coincide with the rotation of the rotor. If need me, have someone crank the car while you watch the rotor turn.

verify your firing order.

finally, put the timing light on it and verify your initial timing. Be sure to unplug the vacuum advance when you do so ( and plug the line )
