anybody have this problem, my DUI (Davis Unified Distributors) distributor is not getting any timing, it detonates at 8 deg thought it was a fuel issue but not.

so I installed my stock HEI and it gets 15 deg at idle WO vacc and runs like a raped ape.

any suggestions

It has to "be getting timing" if it's detonating. That's what causes the detonation.

at idle its at 8deg when i drive it it pings i lower it to 0 i drive it pins. so i removed it and put my stock one in and set it at 15 deg drove and i here nothing no ping.

I'm not following you.
You installed the distributor and you set the initial timing to the same as the distributor that you took out?

But its not getting any timing......

Are you saying it is not getting any mechanical advance? yes at idle rev to 3000 it shows 36 deg

Does the mechanical advance mechanism spring back when you twist the rotor with the cap off? Maybe some springs fell off or the weights were left off.

no thats fine

i put my performance dist. from DUI in set it at 15 drove it it pinged, set it to 10 and it pinged set it at 0 and it pinged. checked the weights spring are there,
i even put the weights and springs form my stock HEI and still pinged, disconnected the vacc advance and still pinged.

so i put the stock HEI in and it ran crazy fast.
