I pulled my valve covers this morning to check valve adjustments and noticed that the #1 exhaust rocker looked discolored as in an over heat situation. I didn't notce that any of the valves were tightened too much, but could this have been caused by the #1 exhaust valve not closing all the way????
The heads are Vortecs and the rocker arms are Comp Cams roller tip.

Any body seen anything like this before?

I would think you have a lack of oil for that rocker. Did you run it with the valve cover off to see if it is oiling properly?

I didn't get a chance, the battery had drained from not keeping it running long enough when moving from the driveway to garage, but I'll check this weekend. It should be OK as the lifers were new with the cam and I made sure to lube the arms with the supplied lube from Comp.

If it is lack of oil also check the pushrod to make sure the hole is not plugged.

All of those comp roller tips change color in the ball/socket area. I would still check to make sure it's oiling, though.
