I have an 79 nova with a open 8,5" 10 bolt Rear.
Now i want to change it with an 9" ford or an 12 bolt gm.
i want an direct fit axel and som supplier say i can use one for 70-81 camaro.
other say 67-69 camaro 68-74 nova will fit.:confused:
What is the corect info?
I dont want to by one i cant use.

unless you going to be runnin sub 8's in the quarter.. the 8.5 will hold up just fine..

you can spend around 1,000.00 and make a bulit proof 8.5 that will take an easy 700hp....

unless you just want the braging rights of a 9" or a 12 bolt....

as for drop in rear. 1967-1969 camaro 12 olt, 1968-1971 nova,

I dont care for the 9" pinion intersection they loose on average 3% more hp than a comparable 10/12bolt or dana 60...

I have a 9" out of a "72 Bronco.Just had to relocate the spring perches.The only problem is the bigger bolt pattern.I believe it's 5.5"But this was for my '66.

I now that the 8,5" can be built almost bullet proof but the problem is to get some one in my small home town in norway that can rebuild the one i have.
maybe i can do it my self, but havent don it before.

The problem is that i have an pen diff and figure I need a an rear end with app.3,55 gear and posi .
i have got somme offer for new bult 12 bolt and 9" rear axel
but dont now what i shal do.

did not pay attention to your local....but any competent rear end shop should be able to build the 8.5 regardless of geographic location.... just need the parts.. and they are readily available across the globe..
