It'll be even stronger if you weld the perimeter of the notch/tube interface... I say go for it!! It'll be fine.Hey guys, so little clearance issue on my x factor cross member. What is concusses on notching the member? I have some 3/16 wall tubing i was thinking about welding in. I’ve seen some pretty funky/sketchy stuff on OE members….. thoughts. View attachment 451922
I have to do that for my crossmember too for header and collector clearance but not for a TKX or an LS, just a Muncie/SBC combo (for now the Muncie...). It happens but the arc of the tubing will add rigidity across the otherwise two free-hanging sides that can create torsion where the tube connecting them adds rigidity and stiffens things up. It's not really a part that flexes much but, the stronger the better I feel.Hey guys, so little clearance issue on my x factor cross member. What is concusses on notching the member? Good call!I think it wlll be fine to notch it. Before you do be sure you have the right trans mount in it. There are different heights and if too tall it will push the exhaust up into the crossmemember and throw off the driveshaft angles.
And THAT is exactly how to fab that thing up!might not even notice it’s not supposed to be there
Looks perfect! With that black wrinkle paint, should look better than from the factoryGot it all done, the fit is pretty good. Starting to mock up the exhaust, so when the exhaust is back out for final welding and smoothing, i will pull member out again to get some wrinkle paint on it to blend it in a bit better.
