I have a set of 66 belts that came out of the car orginally that need some work or I have a set of retractable 67 belts that came out of a SS also. The 67 's are in excellent shape.

My questions are did they have retractable belts in 67? Also the buckles are different on each year. GM logo on 67 and carriage on 66. Would either buckle be okay for either year?

Also I looked at the custom dye chart that RIT dye has posted on the web.The Marine blue and the turquise blue look pretty similar to a bright blue interior match. Does anyone have any experience in dying their belts bright blue? The orginals are so dirty it is hard to tell and the 67's are black.

I started restoring the car in 1994 then kind of petered out. Any help you can give me is appreciated. It should be done by the end of the summer unless I get distracted for another 15 years???

Hey John.... welcome to our sickness!

According to my 66 Fisher book, the 66 did have retractable belts one of two ways...

The first was the standard metal retractor that you put in line of the belt, and the second being a OEM retractor mechanism with a cover that is bolted to the door side of both bucket seats.

Hope this helps... :)

That is the retractor I have (floor mounted). Thanks for the info. I still have to decide to sell the ones with the retractors and take the money to restore the originals or just use the retractors. Maybe in a couple years Ill make a decision kind of like in the past.
