Unilite requires a ballast resistor. If your coil is oil filled it needs to be mounted verticaly to keep the windings submerged in the oil.

a factory ChevyII had a points style ignition that required/used a resistance wire... if an HEI is used that wire is replaced with a standard stranded wire... as Burke stated the Unilite requires a ballast resistor (similar to a resistance wire) also the oil filled coil needs to be mounted to keep windings submerged in oil...

the stock equipment is/was a wire... the ballast unit referred to is a ceramic encased resistance wire that bolts/screws to the firewall. best advice i can give is to check Mallory's home page to ensure the proper resistance unit is used... they have different ratings ;)

and as noted in the info Tony posted... it's very possible the module has been blown when the coil was lost if no resistance unit was used...
