I kept everything with the original tank. I threw away the charcoal canister and just bent the metal vent line facing downward. Did it to this 72 and on my last 71 I put a new tank with a sump and did away with the canister as well.
no problems with doing this? i was thinking of doing it as well, but i heard something about it preventing gas odor from escaping, so i never did itI kept everything with the original tank. ahh well that is good to know  so what exactly needs to be done in order to remove it?No problems and no odors. I just use the original gas cap as well. Done it on my last 71 also like stated.
I hear you Phillip. I would have given this one to you, but when I sold the engine and hood($500) that was in my 72 the guy took the cannister and all extras that I didn't want.Mine gets way over that unless I keep the cooler running 24/7. Then it stays about 90°. The crap gas we have here vaporizes much quicker than real gas does.
