Hello! I want to buy these two engines. The seller says that they are 350's But one seems to be 307 and the other one I can not find any information.
Both engines were from a boat

An Easy one and a Mystery

(1) 3970020 = 1969 to 1973, 307, 2 bolt mains.

(2) 39700_0 ????

3970000 ? 350 truck, 4-bolt mains

3970010 ? 302 (!) and 350, 2 and 4 bolt mains

The suffix code, at the right front of the block,
may provide determinative information on the second engine.

Or, it is likely that someone else on this site
knows the story of the missing number

I usually look up engine identification at NastyZ28 site. Most of the time the information can be found there..

Mysterious Omission

I am still interested in the story behind the missing number.
My 20 year old "Chevy Small Block"
"Factory Part and Casting Number Guide"
does not address that question or I would have provided the information.
Nor does the Nasty Z28 site provide that information.
