Need some help, have a 1972 nova went to change positive battery cable from battery to starter. After changing cable started the car and it turned over but the cable started smoking at the stater connection. After turning the ignition key off , the car still kept running which caused the cable at the starter to smoke an burn. Had to choke it out in order to stop engine from running. After installing new starter and both battery cables car will not even turn over. I get no clicking or buzzing noise from starter. The battery and altenator were checked and both are good. Can anybody lead me in a direction what else to check why the starter is not turning over.

To begin with turn your lights on and see if they work. If so your battery is ok. Next check and see if you have a small wire( purple color on most chevys) going to the small post at the top of the solenoid. That is the wire that tells the starter to turn.
