Canister Coil location

So as a few already know - I had some ignition issues. I've replaced the control module and will be putting in the new correct ballast resistor and coil tonight per the distributor recommendations ( Prior owner left out the ballast resistor).

With the heat our SBC's create - would mounting the coil on the firewall as opposed to the top of the intake next to the distributor make good sense?

I'm thinking without the coil sitting on the intake it should not be subjected to as much heat...

Thoughts / suggestions? It is a canister style coil - shaped like a beer can.

Thx
Greg

Anybody? I'll be drilling my mounting holes in the morning and would appreciate any help/ suggestions ....
All I would make sure is that the coil is mounted upright.
Heat from the intake isn't that big of a deal, firewall mount will be right above the exhaust header/manifold,heat rises.
Upright

I havew heard that you should mount a coil upright but I dont know why?:turn:

Oil filled styles mounted horizontal may leak, epoxy filled style doesn't matter I think.

It is filled with oil except for a small area on top. The oil is the coolant for the windings. When mounted on the side it allows part of the windings to be uncovered and it could cause early failure of the coil from over heating.
Yup mounted upright. I have a spot between the blower motor / distributor / electric lines passing through where it will fit nicely. I was thinking with it a little further away / not over the exhaust and not in contact with the intake might make it just a little cooler.
